Dynamics NAV cloud (hosted) or on-premises (client server)

Why the cloud?

Cloud computing is the latest buzz word, and it seems like everybody’s talking about it. We offer you an unbiased comparison of cloud computing (also called hosted solutions) and on-premise solutions based on your specific needs.  The advantages of cloud are compelling for some: accessible from anywhere, no need for servers, payable monthly—like rent—instead of an upfront capital investment, add/subtract user count as needed.

Cloud computing is an efficient computing model empowering businesses to accomplish more with less. With on-premise solutions, IT departments spend up to 80% of their time working on maintaining and supporting hardware and applications. Cloud computing has changed the role of IT, making it the most flexible and manageable part of your business costs. Cloud IT helps companies focus efforts on improving business information delivery and business processes rather than maintaining infrastructure, which results in greater Business Intelligence and Analytics for management.

Advantages of our cloud

Access to hardware and software is over the Internet and IT is provided “on demand.” You pay as you go and pay for what you use. It’s a subscription-based service.  You can add and remove services at will, and it’s an operational expense not a capital expense.  Plus, with our offering, there are attractively priced options that include Office and Dynamics NAV, or you can use software you’ve already purchased.

Our implementation of cloud includes significant advantages and gives you choices:

  • It’s a private cloud, so you are not limited in the tools you can use to access it, compared to other public cloud providers who have to limit tools to prevent you from getting to another tenant’s data or infrastructure. In addition, you are not affected if another ‘tenant’ needs to take down their server.
  • You have the choice of:
    • Paying monthly (SaaS, Software as a Service) for Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Microsoft Word, Excel, email, CRM, etc., – including the infrastructure, or
    • Moving the software you already own to the cloud, and only paying monthly for the infrastructure
  • You still own your data
  • You have the option of leaving the cloud without having to migrate to different software. Since Dynamics NAV software is available both on premises and in the clouds, you can license the software and bring your data back on premises.

Choosing cloud or on-premise – both options are available

Increasingly, IT is facing a choice when assessing new business applications: on-premise or hosted in the cloud. With Computer Business Solutions and Dynamics NAV, both options are available.

With an on-premises implementation, all of your data and software reside on your own computers or internal network. Speed is not dependent on your internet access bandwidth, and installation is performed quickly by CBSi. Interfacing with existing applications is easily achieved.

With a cloud-based solution, the IT footprint is reduced so your resources can spend less time on maintaining infrastructure and more time working on projects to fuel your future growth. In addition, you are able to scale the number of users up or down, based on your business requirements.
